As the New Year arrives, Bollywood is gearing up to enthrall audiences with its offerings. Featuring fascinating dramas, thrilling thrillers and energetic musical extravaganzas, 2024 is sure to please movie buffs. Moreover, it is expected that this year will also see the return of some old favorites as well as the debuts of some fresh talent.
This year we can expect the sequels of some blockbusters such as Raid, Stree and Rooh Afzaan to take off at the box office. Besides these, there will be a plethora of new releases from other regions as well.
Ajay Devgn will reprise his role as Income Tax officer Amay Patnaik in the upcoming film Raid 2. The sequel is set to be an action political drama and will focus on how Article 370 was rendered ineffective through a series of events. Dibakar Banerjee will be releasing LSD 2 which is a multi-faceted story of love in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
The first film in the series was a dark comedy that starred Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Aparshakti Khurana. The second instalment of the screamer will star Anushka Sharma and Tiger Shroff. The third installment of Hera Pheri will also mark the debut of Diljit Dosanjh in his starring role as Punjabi folk hero Amar Singh Chamkila.
Besides these, there will be a lot of movies from the family genre. Alia Bhatt will be reuniting with her Judwaa director Vasan Bala for Jigra which is said to have brother-sister love at its core. The film will be co-produced by Alia and Karan Johar and it will be slated to release on September 27.
Another family film which is a must-watch is Daddy Afzaan. Starring Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Suniel Shetty in lead roles, Daddy Afzaan is a story of a father and son who come together to rescue their kidnapped daughter from an evil mafia don.
There are also some period films that have been lined up for release this year. These include the likes of Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of Srikanth Bolla, a visually impaired industrialist in Chandu Champion, and Vicky Kaushal’s take on Chhatrapati Samabhaji Maharaj in the epic historical drama, Chhaava.
Kangana Ranaut is set to bring on her acting prowess in Emergency, a biopic about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Moreover, Ravi Jadhav’s Main Atal Hoon is another must-watch political drama which will showcase Pankaj Tripathi in his best form as the right-wing leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
